is Post Office bank accounts any good?

Hi I was wondering what are people's thoughts of having a current account with the post office? I am not so interested in the interests rates but its more important to have easy access to pay cash and cheques in as I drive in rural areas and pass them often but not many large banks. I can always transfer money once I've paid it in but not sure of what to expect after always using banks. Thoughts please?
Thanks
Thanks

Nowt wrong with the Post Office, go for it if is suits you. Looks like you can have a night for two in a hotel of your choice if you open a current account with them before 24 November.
By the way, Post Office accounts are operated by Bank of Ireland so it seems that you can't avoid those pesky banks at all!0 -
I don't want to switch to it as my main account as I am happy with the Halifax for that. Its just somewhere to pay cash and cheques in really.0

Ok well that should suit you just fine.0

Do I need to go into a post office to open an account or can I do it only? If I was to pay money or cheques in does it go in my account straight away? Sorry for all the questions but this is all new to me, thanks alot by the way steve_xx you have been most helpful.0

Information is basically all on the PO website: http://www.postoffice.co.uk/current-accounts
I haven't seen any users of their current account posting here but several savings account holders have reported pretty mediocre service.
Found one review in the papers: http://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/may/18/post-office-current-accounts0 -
Interestingly I have just discovered that you can open an account with TSB and use the Post Office to service it.
Now I know you said you weren't bothered about interest, but the TSB Classic Plus current account does pay 5% interest on balances upto £2000. It seems rather a shame to look a gift horse in the mouth if you can have TSB interest whilst still using the Post Office for deposits/withdrawals etc.

or just use your existing Halifax account at the Post Office...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
