No, but once it's opened you can change it to a joint account online via internet banking.

What is the best way to apply for a new Halifax joint current account when switching from another banks current account - in branch or online and then get the second name added?

So would neither party need to go to a branch in that case, ie nothing to sign etc?

You can't switch a joint account into a sole account via the current account switching service (CASS), so you'd need to set up the joint account first before initiating the switch.

The exisiting account is joint and the new account would be joint.

The application for the account was made and it was successful in a single name. We are waiting for the paperwork and confirmation that the application for a joint account has been successful before asking Halifax to switch the account which will entitle us to £100. :money: :j

For anyone else in a silmilar situation:-

You can apply for the Halifax Reward current account online and get your account details (sort code and account number) instantly. As soon as your application has been successful (online applications can be approved in a matter of seconds) you can apply for the account to be made a joint account as long as you do not accept the offer of an overdraft. If you require an overdraft you can apply for it after the account is a joint account.

Thanks for all the responses. :T

Another update in case anyone else is thinking of opening an account and wondering how long it takes.

On Wednesday 19th November the account was joint so that evening the application was made for the switch of accounts to commence which is supposed to be completed by Friday 28th November 2014. Both cards and PINS have been received yesterday, Saturday 22nd November.

    HTH someone! :money:
