Hi, i am currently receiving ESA, today is my second payment of the benefit. Upon checking my bank account to see if the money was in, i was surprised to find out that two payment have been credited to my account. One of the payment is ESA the other is JSA. So i have two payments of £144 sitting in my account. What i don't understand is that i dont sign on or anything like that, i just give DWP my sick note so im confused as to how a payment of JSA has appeared.

From what i understand esa and jsa are two seperate departments of the dwp and you have to sign on in order to get a JSA payment, it's weird.
Has anyone encountered anything like this before? and what i should do about it?

thanks in advance

Probably a payment in error, unless it's arrears.
I would look for a free way to contact the DWP and ask them.
Just be prepared to repay it if asked.

Are you saying that you have received more benefit in total than your were expecting?
Have you moved from JSA to ESA and if so could one of the payments be the final payment of JSA?
  • As i understand it ESA/JSA are paid using the same system and some payments ie same day payments will show jsa on Bank statements could be the same for arrears

Yes, i was expecting one payment of ESA and thats it. I haven't claimed JSA for years.
I have only been claiming ESA for a little while.

According to my bank statement, ESA was paid by BGC, and JSA paid by FPI.

I can only assume it's a payment in error but it just seems pretty strange considering i have not claimed JSA and so have not signed on at the jobcentre for them to release a payment for it. I could understand if i was paid ESA twice into my account but the JSA is a totally seperate benefit altogether.
They are usually so strict about such things from what i remember.

Call the number on any of the documentation you have received. It should be an 0345 number now, if it still shows 0845 try using 0345 anyway. Your call should be short, just tell them you have a query about payment and need a callback.
