Holiday settings: message length

Ebay lets you add a message when a shop is on holiday settings.

But it rejects the message, saying you are only allowed 1000 characters, even if the message is much shorter, under 250 characters, say.

Does anyone know the true limit, or how to avoid the restriction?

It sounds like yet another glitch, try logging out clear your cache and try again. My holiday message is used a couple of times a week and is very short!
