Car Part

Good afternoon everyone,
I purchased a brand new car bumper from an online store nearly 6 weeks ago now. The bumper arrived 2 days later and was quite badly damaged.
I have only today got round to contacting the company who say the bumper was purchased too long ago for them to offer me a refund.
Where do I stand with this?
Thanks in advance.

Unless you can give a good reason as to why its taken you 6 weeks, with evidence, to inspect the item you'll be on very thin ice0 -
I have been on holiday and also very busy at work, do I have any right to demand a refund?
Thanks0 -

No, you do not... for the reason stated.
How long does it take to spot that an item is 'quite badly damaged'?
Surely not six weeks.
Have a read of MSE's Failed Delivery article, but I too expect that you are stuck with the goods you have.0 -
Ok, I guess that makes sense. Out of interest, under UK law, how long do you have to return an item that has arrived damaged?0

The law is talks about "reasonable" without actually defining things as set periods.
There are examples on certain consumer rights websites where people have managed to get a long period, one where someone bought something for their new house and didnt check it until they moved and another for a mower bought in winter and not unpacked until spring. In both these cases however it was also very clearly a manufacturing issue rather than impact damage etc.
Simply being "too busy" isnt likely to cut the mustard and so the goods are going to be considered accepted. Your second issue is going to be that it sounds like you are talking impact damage rather than manufacturing flaw which combined with the unreasonable length of time to spot it really does sound like you having damaged it and now wanting to return it claiming its how it was when you got it0 -
You will probably manage to get it repaired quite easily.0
