sick pay when self employed

Hi, I have searched but can't seem to find the answer. My husband is currently the only earner and is a self employed driving instructor. We (stupidly) only have life insurance because it will never happen to you right??
Wrong it seems, he is currently at the hospital awaiting op to fix tendon damage to his thumb. Result will be 6-8 weeks in a splint and no work.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, we have zero savings and no chance of credit we're on a DMP.
If I was lucky enough to get a job today I would not earn enough to even cover mortgage but I'm looking. We have 4 children in under 7 and get child tax credit.
Thanks in advance.

If you get recommendations from existing provisional drivers and he isn't working, then may work be a bit slower than normal when he does resume?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Special boy, its because of his insurance, unless the Drs say he can work they won't insure him.
White wing, yes work will be slower unless his current pupils are happy to wait.0
