This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning all,
No rain here atm but due some more later I think, off to work for me but not a normal day we have a review day which basically means sitting around and talking about the year just gone and the one ahead, will be a bit dull but we get a free lunch !
Saw mum yesterday she is doing very well with her knee there is a small problem with her kidney so they are going to keep her in till the weekend, but she is in the best place.
Popped into John Lewis yesterday, its really beautiful in there with all the Xmas bits out, anyone could buy me anything from there and I would be happy with it
I also went into Homesense and bought some beautiful mouth blown glass baubels from poland, they are different colour glass and really beautiful.
Mrs LW as I said my sisters dog is suffering from dementia which is controlled by pills, they had to try a fair few before they got one that suited her so keep trying them x
DD coming home tonight we are off xmas shopping tomorrow I want to get the bulk of it out of the way.
Chips for dinner not sure what with, will go and look. Shopping being delivered tonight and I need to put a wash on.
Have good days all xx

Morning RR & all who cross/follow
Fish & hubby have been fed, hubby's been dropped at work, I gave his colleague a lift too & whilst they are unlocking the gate 2 teachers turned up hassling to get in! School opens at 7:45 & this was at 6:25, no doubt hubby will give them short shrift. The building is unlocked in a certain order because of the alarm system & no matter how much they whinge they will just have to wait.
I put the WM on when I got up & it's just finished, so I'll hang the washing over the maiden & then set off for work.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning All
It was wet and windy last night, had to close the bedroom window as the noise was driving me mad. Then don't have such a good sleep as it gets too stuffy - I can't win!
Welcome to slowdown, madeliensmum and amandatnumber7.
Judi – Sometimes I wonder about FB, some folk just use it to stir up trouble. If any of my 'friends' did that I would delete them. I hope your DS is ok, can you get in touch with him to check? Don't go to the reunion if you don't feel comfortable, it may be too stressful!
Butterfly Brain (or Brian as another poster called you!), hope OH is feeling better, sounds horrid.
Washing on the airers, DW emptied and packed lunches sorted. DD will have left over cottage pie as she doesn't finish till 8pm so will have something substantial at her break, too late when she gets home which will be about 9.30.
I'm off to work then the hospice and then I am going to do some housework! Pushed the vacuum round the other day but that's about it. I am ashamed to say that my car is cleaner than the house at the moment!
Have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
Morning :hello:
Another one here who doesn't like visitors. I'm OK if I know in advance and I know them really well, but a phone call asking if they can pop round for coffee in an hour sends me into a slight panic. If it's one of mr tru's friends and I don't know them well, I suggest they go to the pubI get on with his friends so I used to feel bad about that, but they wouldn't come round if mr tru wasn't here. They're visiting him, not me.
Work today but I'm hoping to be home by 12. I'm going to eat a pile of carbs for lunch and hope it sends me off to sleepI can't keep going on 4-5 hours of broken sleep each night. I've gone beyond tired and now feel worn out.

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, sky a beautiful array of pink and orange, looks lovely but usually indicates rain at some point in the day, still quite breezy too.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and gone to work. DS2 up and getting ready for school.
Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk and fish, jacket potato and veg for me. Tonight I’m not sure but will organise later.
I have loads of stuff to do today, not really sure where to start to be honest, think I will get the clothes we need organised, ironed etc., need to pack. We have a last minute problem with some of the equipment we need for the weekend, so am trying to sort that, hoping I can. I’m very much looking forward to the weekend though, be nice to get away.
I have a couple of admin jobs to do also, so will just try to get going with it all and take it steady – I have all day so it should be do-able just feels a bit overwhelming and of course I’m not very speedy at the moment either!
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
Still at home as I've got a day of check-ups. First is optician for contact lens check and the back at the dentist for a visit to the hygienist. Didn't fancy it last week after an hour and a half with the dentist.
Been thinking about the visitor thing...I hate it when people just appear without warning. Not too bad if they ring ahead cos that gives me the chance to say no if I feel like it. Living in the middle of nowhere makes some of that difficult as the farmer often knocks (can you move your car, we want to move cows/sheep or here's some eggs) or estate workers heading home after a wet day in the hills and who are seeking a 'wee nip'. Have to say I don't mind that cos they stand in the hall and remove some layers of clothes first, not everything you understand just enough for me to enjoy watching.
Right, am sitting here in a towel so need to get myself dressed and out. Breakfast will be a bacon and egg roll at Wetherspoons at Queen Street station - so yummy. After all my checks I'm heading up north and home for the weekend. Happiness.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Reunion confirmed with my friend. Told her I'd meet her there at 8.30 - 9pm. Last year she turned up at my door at 6pm. Just as I was serving up tea so I thought if I told her I wasn't going to be there till late she'd just turn up at the venue as early as she wanted. Ive told hubby I'm going and I get "Oh great. I come back for a weekend and your off out for the night". Ive yet to tell him that my friend has asked if she can stay over.... last year when she stayed over it was almost evening by the time she left. Hubby is so not going to like this but he's just going to have to lump it and she is going to have to leave earlier than tea time.
I have my Grandson with me today, he's lying in his cot at the moment. I'm not going to get much done but that's ok, theres not much to be done anyway.
Youngest has got his driving lesson at 2.
Cottage pie for tea.
Onwards and forwards,

Good Morning everyone, grey and dreary here this morning but not yet raining so hopefully the Dockling and his Dadi will get a dry walkies this morning. REDRUBY yes, I remember you saying about your sisters doggie, the vet gave us lots of hope yesterday and has started our old lad on ZYLKENE but has many other things in reserve to try including something that treats vascular dementia and opens up blood capillories and helps very quickly. I have hope now, yesterday I didn't and thought this might have been the end. As is the way of things, the dog slept through last night without disturbing over much, he got up for walkabout a few times but didn't get upset and I was awake listening to him sleep!!! Human beings are very odd aren't we?
Not much planned today but making lists for plans over the christmas period and a review of presents got and presents needed so I know where I am. Hope you all have a really nice day, that poorlies have a Good day and that any problems are well on the way to being solved, Lyn xxx.0 -
sistercas if you have never been try the Museum of London in the Barbican (city) its amazing and very interesting, we took my DGS at half term and they loved it (and its free
:):))
Good morning chums ,well dry, with a bit of wind at the moment and I have a small wash on the go, which I'm hoping I'll get out on the line shortly.
Yesterday afternoon I went to our U3A monthly meeting and our speaker was the lovely Barbara who was the President of Downe W.I and she gave a very funny talk with a few jokes thrown in .Very entertaining and she got a very good reception.
Her eldest son is the ubiquitous Nigel Farage, and she soon put us straight that her son's ideas are not necessarily hers:) Great speaker, and had the audience in stitches at times . Interesting subject of Darwin and his family. If you ever get the chance she is well worth watching.
Nice cuppa and a bicuit and natter afterwards as well.
Apart from the washing not much doing today ,I've got some bagels from the freezer out for the boys after school snack so I'll take those round around 3.00 so thei will have a chance to be warmed up before they come in. Only 6 weeks to go until Christmas !!! still not got in the Christmas spirit yes,but I did manage to buy two packets of puff pastry yesterday that were on offer, so they have gone into the freezer for the sausage rolls .I must get myself organised.Trouble is I have around 6 family birthdays as well before Christmas so its quite and expensive time of the year .
Well time to get a wriggle on, as the washing should be ready to go on the line now
have a good day everyone
Cheers JackieO xxx0 -
Morning all,
Damp and dreary here this morning, and quite cold.
We have been to the SM to do a shop and to get a few things for Christmas, Sorry it has to be done
Such good news about Docky, I think all of us are relieved Lyn, poor boy, old age never comes on it's own.
I must do some hoovering downstairs today, and a quick flick with a duster. Sausage and chips for our meal tonight, so that will be nice and quick. We should have taken DD for physio this morning, but she texted me early to say she wasn't well and she had phoned to cancel (just the usual, but she is 46) She has polycistic ovaries so can have quite a bad time each month. She went back to bed so we will see her tomorrow, much better that she stays at home in the warm.
Hugs to all poorlies, both human and animal.
Have a good day
