Christmas shutdown

The holiday year is the dates within which you should take your annual holiday allowance.
Why can't you just use the holiday allowance?0 -
Ahhh sorry,i use my holidays between april to april,i dont know why they wornt let us,there bin very awkward about it all,i thought if it was to shutdown and it wasnt our doing they had to pay us0

So let me see if this is right. Over Christmas / New Year you were going to have 8 days off from a combination of days off and public holidays. That would have meant working four days, 24/12, 29/12, 30/12 and 31/12.
They are now proposing to close these days as well and offering you the option either to work 4 additional Fridays between now and then, or to work these days on a different site. Is that right?
If that is the situation I think they are trying hard to be fair. I don't at all understand why you would describe that as bullying. Many people really want time off over Christmas and I'd expect a fair chunk of the workforce to welcome that arrangement.0 -
By 'council' are you referring to a union or collective bargaining committee?
If so they do not need to ask all staffs opinions since thats what the 'council' are there for -to collectively make decisions on behalf of the staff.
If you don't want to work an extra 4 days to make up for the break ask if they will let you have them off without pay?
Although it's a little late in the day to suddenly spring it on you now (if you've worked for them all year?) its not illegal and they are entitled to do it.
i.e. My office is informing staff before Jan that they do not give 'substitute' bank holidays off and that's next December!Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -
That is right, but please bare in mind, fridays are my normal over time day,i work 48hours a week now, normal time for 40 and 6 overtime rate minus 2 hours for dinners.

Because they are asking that you work overtime now in order to pay you normal time then.
i.e. they aren't going to pay you for the additional 4 days which are not bank holidays, yet they will be closed so you cannot choose to work.
You will need to make up the 4 days:
work 4 days before those days.
take an extra 4 days our of your holiday allowance
or (if they let you) take them as unpaid holidays.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

This should be sooooo simple - why do you find it so hard to just give the simple facts?:hello:0

The council should be consulting with the employees and employers insisting that use of holiday should be an option.0
