Confused re: eligibility for tax credits (maternity leave)

I've been on a couple of the online benefits calculators but each one gives me a different response and I'm looking for a more definitive answer.
My husband earns £29k per annum; I earn £33k so we are not currently eligible for tax credits.
I'm currently pregnant with Baby due in late January. During my maternity leave I get 6 weeks at 90% maternity pay, 12 weeks at half pay plus SMP then 21 weeks at SMP.
I'm planning to go back to work in November (at the end of the 21 week SMP period), dropping my hours from 36 to 30 per week. From this time I'll also be paying childcare of at least £175 / week.
My income for 2014/15 is not going to be much lower than 2013/14 but I've calculated my income for 2015/16 will be around £14k (minus £100 per week of SMP).
Can someone tell me if a joint income of £43k is still too high to claim either Child Tax Credits or Working Tax Credits. Each online calculator gives me a different answer!
My 2nd question is, if we are eligible, when do I make a claim? In Jan/Feb when baby arrives, or the new tax year in April?
Obviously in 2016/17 my earnings will be higher so my entitlement will stop.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
