Hi I read martin's haggling guide and thought I'd see what deal I could get - can you experienced MSErs tell me what I got right and wrong.
So - Holiday spec
- 2 adults travelling
- Tenerife - Playa de las americas
- Any board including Room Only
- Include 1 15 KG bag each
- Include Transfers
(arrange parking/insurance separately)
- exclude accommodation with a lot of bad reviews (subjective I know)
- 29 Jan flights for 7 days
First clear cookies from Google Chrome browser - some websites bump prices up if you keep running similar searches
Choose websites we like/think are good:
Icelolly
Lowcostholidays
Teletextholidays
Travelsupermarket
Price for the holiday without transfers and baggage advertised at £175 (Icelolly) and £189 (Ttxt) and £204 (LCH). When you ring up, this is never the price - the deals come in in the morning and must have all gone by now, or if you ring in the morning - the offers haven't been updated yet - you leave your name and they never ring back 'when the deals come in'. So 'Ok' you accept that and that bags are about £40 return and transfers about £12 return PP. The difference between the website price and 'live/real' price was about up to £100 (varied). I even tried ryanair directly and a handful of other sites, but couldn't get lower than £299.50 PP
So the spec of the result:
4* Zentral Zenter - has 'double beds' !!!!! :-) and pool, sauna, jacuzzi (on the roof) and wifi. Downsides, hotel restaurant, bars, entertainment, balconies seem 'minimal' - but you are in the middle of Playa Americas which have lots of these things! Room Only.
ATOL protected and another one I hadn't heard of Travel Trust Association (TTA). It also specifies 'not a package holiday'. I guess I can live with that and the ryanair book in online 7 days in advance, and the holiday 'super expensive if you wan't to change anything'
What are your comments?

The guide is about haggling for a package holiday, not a flight and accommodation trip.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Where are you flying from? Why not just book flights direct with Ryanair, and sort out a hotel separately? Playa de las Americas is a quick and cheap taxi ride from Tenerife Airport.
Cut out the middle men and save a few quid that way!0 -
Thanks bagand96 - yes the flights and baggage were just about the same with ryanair direct - not if you took their transfers and chose from their hotels....
happy to do transfers direct with the various operators
I havent seen good value on choosing your own hotels..... but maybe I'm not looking on the right sites?
The idea is that if I didn't do it the best way this time,,,,,,

My thoughts, put Teletext Holidays in search on this forum, read carefully and if you are still happy then book it, but if things go pear shaped you will have been forewarned. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0

The hotel is available via alpharooms for £319 for the 7 nights.
Flights depend where your going from but the following is available based on 2 people with a suitcase each:
Gatwick £218.60 (Norwegian)
Cardiff £252 (Ryanair)
Birmingham £239.92 (Monarch)
Other airports go upwards from there, so depending on where you are, once combined with the hotel only price you're getting near the £300 each you've been quoted.0 -
Before anyone books with teletext I recommend reading these reviews:

Thank you for the various helpful comments
I am flying from Bristol (20 minutes from home) - I appreciate that other airports are cheaper.
The ryanair cost was pretty much the same via teletext holidays and direct.
So - it is clear from the various threads , that I will be carrying a higher level of risk by using this operator - the £200 charge for a minor name or details change, which is obviously to 'encourage you to get it right first time' (also mentioned on watchdog last night). The pattern of a huge amount of negative reviews at review centre - I wouldn't book a hotel if the tripadvisor ratings looked like that....
I was loking for some specific comments on the 'not a package holiday' and TTA aspects..... and anybody that has successfully travelled with TTxt holidays... and overall comments on value.
Thanks again, and any more comments welcome - I am off to digest some more review centre comments!

Lowcostholidays are based in Majorca. There is no ATOL protection when travelling with them, and pretty much no comeback if things go wrong (unless you're an expert on the Spanish legal system).
Avoid them like the plague.0 -
Thanks Thumbremote, I appreciate the information about lowcostholidays - my query is about teletext holidays.
