Newbie question

Never had to check my credit before but I applied for an m&s bank account and received a letter stating they had rejected me even though my credit score was acceptable..

They said that they had checked with a credit reference agency and the info they held on me, or a person finically linked to me resulted in a rejection!!

I am single and live on my own so am a bit confused. There are three credit companies they have listed and two say I can get a free trial. I was just wondering if the free reports would give me the answers I am looking for?

I have recently applied for a mortgage and got accepted which is why I'm kind of confused!!

That seems to be a pretty standard M&S rejection letter. A few of us have had that when applying for their Current Account.

By all means try the free trials but only if you have the tenacity to cancel before the second month starts. The usual advice is to pay £2 for a one-off Statutory Report.

You can get your experian and equifax files on free trials, or pay £2 each for the statutory report. These wil give you all the info you need.

You can get the callcredit file free from Noddle, or the statutory report for £2.

Have you actually moved house? or are you in the process of applying for a mortgage? if you have moved house very recently then the decline could be due to you not yet showing on the electoral roll and/or your current accounts not yet having updated your file with the credit ref agencies.
