I think the OP has a point, although the thread title is a bit shrill.

As an ex-hack, I know that it's often the headline that attracts the readers!

The best I've found are the compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) but they seem to be going out of fashion and harder to source.
I can't say I've noticed that they're becoming harder to source.

A good web site with very helpful Chat Line. However, the advisor there said their "warm" white was minimum 3000k. Still to bright/white.
You could wrap a yellow carrier bag around it. :D

I have one of these in my lounge: http://lifx.co/

It has about 20 different variances of white, and many shades of colour. Pricey though, and needs a smartphone for control.

Fantastic! Whole new LED world. Just what I want. I'll wait for my Lotto win - or until they become mainstream and down to realistic prices.

    I want that old-fashioned glow.

Sounds like you are waiting for someone to re-invent the tungsten incandescent lamp.

Hmmm - that meld from white to yellow as you dim them - nothing to beat it :)

You can already find those adjustable colour LEDs at not completely unreasonable prices if you look around web shopping search tools.

I've never noticed any difference. To be fair, I don't see the naked bulbs very often, as I have lampshades, these tend to determine the quality of the light.

Not sure if you are serious or not with this post, but waiting may be a good idea.

The bulb is not without fault, as the software is a little buggy at the moment. That said, I would not go back on my purchase because it is brilliant when working smoothly.

I paid significantly less than the shops are selling them for now as I was an original backer on kick starter, but you can find some deals around if you look!
