I've just bought a handheld cheapie from amazon having had a floor one for a couple of years. For about fifteen pounds I was surprised how robust it is and have been really pleased with the results. It's a marvel on the hob and oven, it works wonders on my white kitchen cabinets and I have deep cleansed all my appliances with it too. I suggest you go that way as it's such a cheap product you don't really need to get it as a gift !
As a side note the year before last I asked for and got a karcher window vac from DH and spent my birthday (until DH was home from work) cleaning the windows ! I love that machine too. Xxx0
