Addresses on my credit file

Basically, I'm 19 and at uni and confused about which are my previous addresses.
Are these the previous addresses the councils have been aware I live at, or the previous addresses on my bank account? (Since I lived in student accommodation last year, but my bank was registered as my dad's address. Also, before this, it was on council files that I was living at my mum's).

Usually it should be anywhere that you have lived in the last 6years.

That will enable the credit reference agency to identify credit accounts/searches/electoral roll information etc for you at any of those addresses.

So my bank account was registered at my dad's (simply because he help me set the account up when I was like 13) whilst I was on the electoral register at my mum's and then my flat for uni last year. Recently I've moved flat and just found out that I'm not on the electoral register technically until december the 1st because that's when it get's updated. Credit file companies therefore can't identify me, and I thought this could be a problem with past addresses.

It's annoying because I got refused credit for a mobile and I need to get a new one in the next 30 days to keep my number!
    • The CRAs may be clever enough to link the addresses from different sources.
    • How about getting a PAYG phone to let you keep the number.

Yes I would list all 4 addresses.

Not being on the electoral roll can cause major issues. Especially if you don't have anything else on your credit file that confirms your address (e.g. other credit or bank accounts that have been moved to the new address).

What address did you apply for a mobile contract with?
Assuming you currently have an existing/just ended phone contract what address was used for that?

In general the rolling 30day sim only phone contracts are easier to get than long term/discounted handset contracts so that could be an option to try.

I applied for it from my new flat. Guess it was rejected since I'm not technically on the electoral register yet then. Even though I registered on like august! But until they let credit companies know on december 1st I can't get credit.

And my old contract wasn't in my name or address as it was in my step dad's so that doesn't matter.

And yeah. I might just keep my old phone for now and get a giffgaff sim until I can get credit!

Also surely there should be other things that link me to my current address? Such as electricity and water bills?

As a student I lived at 2 addresses and did not move my bank account over to them. One of them now appears on my credit report as a linked address as my broadband supplied reported the address. The second address is not there as no supplier reported it. So based on that experience, you may or may not have an address link (which I accept isn't that helpful!) and the only way to find out is to get a copy of your credit report. But I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
I don't include either of my student addresses in my address history, when asked. Officially I consider myself to have lived at my parents' throughout.

Are you on the electoral roll at your mum's or dad's? It would probably be best to be registered at one, and have you accounts there. You're allowed to be on the register twice if you're a student.
Then you can get a phone contract by using the address your accounts are registered at. You might have trouble getting them to deliver the phone to your student flat, but you could always go into a store to get round that.

Hi Irc, if you are applying for your credit report we norally ask that you supply all the addresses that you have lived at for the last 6 years. This is because we hold most types of information for 6 years.
By providing all the addresses you have used in this time, it will ensure that you will see all the relevant information that is held in your name when you view your report.
    Kind Regards
