At a guess I would say it is an authorization hold that will drop off in the next couple of days.

I have spoke to Santander today and they have advised me that the transactions are no longer pending and that Newday have the money. ...
  • Thanks to everyone for your advice. After me harassing Newday constantly they have finally admitted that they took the money twice. They have sent a BACS payment through for the second payment so hopefully I should see that back in my account in the next few days.
  • I have just encountered a similar issue. New day have taken 2 payments for £220 from my account, when I paid my debenhams bill. When I initially discovered this I had santander look into the issue and they confirmed that new day had made two transactions, seconds apart, and that they would return the money to my account.
Today, one month later, I receive a letter from new day, informing me that I was now in arrears due to not paying my bill.
I phoned new day, they have no record of the duplicate payment. Because I instructed the bank to refund the money, they were implying I was to blame for 'late payment 'and insist I pay the arrears to preserve my credit history.
I always pay off the full amount on my credit card, I am so frustrated!
I am at my wits end, not sure what to do!?

So what did Santander return - one payment or two?

Does your Santander online record or bank statement still show one payment being made?
  • Santander returned one payment, my statement says new day took two, and then few days later santander returned one.

New day have no record of them taking two!
