Thanks for your advice everyone.
Would it be possible for me to write to them though, and just sign it off as the 'current occupier?' (I mean, they have actually written to 'the occupier.')
As I said earlier, I am a bit worried, (like someone who posted earlier,) that they will put my name against that debt if I put my actual name on the letter, and continue chasing me for it.
I know what some of these companies are like. They're relentless, and won't rest, until they have got the bill paid by someone! Even if it means hounding someone who is nothing to do with the debt.Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

Yes. (Perhaps you could add the date you first became the occupier e.g. "current occupier, who started renting [relevant address] on [date tenancy started]).
The advantage of using your own name is they are more likely to believe you. However you are under to obligation to answer at all. However the more helpful you are the more likely they will move on, to trying to locate the actual account holder.0 -
Similar to a problem that someone posted about earlier, we have had a bill from SSE asking for £37 to be settled, from a tenant that was with this property mid 2012. Over 2 years ago. There was another tenant after them (and before us.)
We moved in around midsummertime last year, and we changed to British Gas from npower. (The previous tenant who stayed about 6 months, was with npower.)
The tenant before last (who left around Oct 2012,) was with SSE. Like the other poster, we also got a letter (on Monday,) which was from SSE, asking for £37 to be paid. This was sent to The Occupier' 999 high street, anytown, anyshire, and not to our name.
This has absolutely nothing to do with us, as it was 2 suppliers (and 2 tenants) back.
What should we do?
I called our housing association, and they told me to write to them and tell them that we weren't even the tenants until almost a year after that debt, and that there has been another tenant since that. But as someone said earlier on here, if they get hold of your name, can they then ask for the money again with your name attached to it, and then maybe register a fault against your name?
I stress, because I don't want people having a go at me; this was 2 energy suppliers back. There was another tenant in before us, and it was the tenant before him.
Contact SSE and ask what this is really all about.
You seem to think it relates to the previous account holder and occupant, but as the previous account holder SSE would know their name, so I doubt it's for that.
More likely it's a bill for the period between tenancies. In which case it would be the landlord's bill. You can give the name & proper address of the landlord (housing association) if that is the real reason for the bill.0
