Help re connecting my laptop please

Hi I don't use my laptop so much now because of my iPad.
Could someone help me reconnect please I'm using Virgin and it's working ok because I'm on it now. But on the laptop it says no networks available and no signal for Virgin appears , is it to do with adapters . I've tried connecting to a network but don't seem able to

Silly question,, but has the wifi button (if it has one) on your laptop accidentally been turned off. I only ask because I did that once, not realising the button was there.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
