I always thought diesel was diesel, any they run on any old crap.
Whatever is being used in the Essex/Herts buses (I live on the border between the two counties) seems to be breaking the pumps.
I've seen many a bus sat at the side of the road with its engine cover up.
My car is usually run on Shell fuel, but will be used on Tesco, as we have a large amount of clubcard fuelsave vouchers.💙💛 💔0

Is it petrol or diesel that's getting more of something eco added that can eat seals? (ester or something?)

FAME (biodiesel) is what's being added. It stands for 'Fatty Acid Methyl Esters' and it's pretty corrosive stuff which meant when it was first introduced, many of the fuel storage sites ended up replacing a lot of equipment after it chewed through seals and pipework.
It's also the reason we see so many blocked fuel filters on low-mileage diesels, as it can be prone to bacterial growth which rapidly clogs filter media (anyone who has an aquarium with algae growth will relate to that). It also becomes pretty thick in low temperatures, much like diesel used to 'wax' in the old days, which can cause all manner of issues.0
