Wednesday 12 November - what small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Morning all!
Don't think I posted yesterday but did all the usual little things plus worked out how to log in to my mortgage account. Even more inspired to pay off my debts quickly now, as worked out if I pay off an extra £200 per month (less than I'm paying towards my debts each month) I can save nearly £20k in interest and knock 16 years off my mortgage!
So today I have/will:-
1. Check banks
2. Take lunch to work
3. Fill water bottle up at work
4. Earn SBs
5. Earn more on OnePoll
6. Make dinner from bits already got at home
7. "Pay" £100 off my beds debt (i.e. put it in the pot for that as need to pay them off in one go)
8. Do a frugal Lidl shop for the few bits I need (didn't so a big shop last weekend like I normally do as I was away, but aiming to just top up on a few bits so will have most of this weeks budget left on Friday when I "refill" my pots!)
Think that's everything but I swear I normally put more things!
In other news... someone has somehow scratched and dented the side of my car  Think I'll have to have it looked at as its gone through the paint work so may rust?Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,435.00
Total paid off - £10,165.89 (65% paid off)0 -
Morning all

Thanks for starting the thread Ziggy.
Twiggy - I have never regretted paying my mortgage off early. It meant that I was able to retire 6 years before the government says I can
For me today:
Babysitting! As usual every Wednesday. OH has taken her out for a walk in her pushchair in between rain showers, so I have been able to have a cup of coffee and a wee :rotfl:
Heating only on in bathroom, airing cupboard and on low in top bedroom, and on timer. I would put it on for the baby but it is not at all cold at the moment. Will light the woodstove later.
There is a pot of soup on the stove, made from the remains of a bacon hock, stock made by boiling the bone, a tin of tomatoes, a spoonful of lentils and pearl barley and bendy veg from the fridge. This will probably do for lunches for the rest of the week.
Probably pasta with HM tomato sauce and salad for supper - quick and easy as I shall probably be shattered by then.
Look at some more of the free Futurelearn course materials this evening.
No spends needed again today

Hello all!! Hoping the weather is better where you are than it is here!!
Discovered a whole new way to stress myself out this morning by leaving handing my essay in right down to the wire
Today will be a spendy day as I need to pop to leedle on my way to work to stock up on the basics.
Other than that I need to list some more items on fleabay and do yet more uni work when I get in from my late shift

Hello All
Do you feel better Ziggy?
Twiggy - awesome on the mortgage front, crap on the car. Sorry to hear that!
Dawn - I do hope it was a free wee
Kaspadoc - get listing. Ebay is much busier at the moment due to that funny big thing that happens once a year
Roaming Bob today. Have started doing stuff already for my new temporary job. Read 10 cvs before I even got out of bed
Galloping off to meet the lady again with some more feedback for her. She's going to pay me £10 per hour for my help so happy Bob.
Galloped to argos to buy birthday presents using voucher. Managed to get 2 gifts, 2 sets of headphones for me & OH, & a new pair of school shoes (his 3rd this term) for under £40 so still have voucher credit.
Found 6p so far.
Made lunch to take with me. Packed son's after school snacks.
Rang my business bank to complain about horrible threatening letter they sent. Have told them and told them the reason why I am not paying in at the moment.
Packed son's after school snacks from halloween stash.
Think that's it for now.

Hello all,
Late from me as was on duty at lunchtime, earning a little extra for this.
Great news about the work Bob :T
I am at work, got a lift, packed lunches for all. Son2 made a veggie chilli yesterday but we decided not to eat it as he put 3 (ghost?) chilli's in it for some reason and says it's the hottest thing he's ever tried - and he really likes spicy food. He is on a mission to tone it down today to make it slightly more edible. I have bought a large pot of yogurt to help with the cause.
Later I will walk dogs (in the dark - drat), do laundry, research insurance for sons motorbike and also need to renew home insurance/do price comparison (as it has gone up a bit - surprise, surprise).
Then might get to read a bit more of library book before bed.
Best wishes x0 -
Switched my phone and broadband to EE from sky, saving £25 per month... they didnt even try and make me stay.. couldnt compete with other providers they said. That money will come in very very handy- as will the free EE TV and 2 for 1 cinema vouchers for an occasional treat
£100 cashback via quidco too

Thanks SS. Your poor son. There's nothing worse than ruining a meal with too much spice. I did that recently with a soup. It was just too much.
Do you teach then? I saw your comment on lunch duty & assumed.
Well done Lillmiss that is fantastic saving." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Hi all
Do you mind if I join you? We have managed to get our debts down from £23k to £17.5k but seem to be slowing down and have such a long way to go. I have got quite sloppy about watching the pennies and I think this would help.
Today I have:
Washed some clothes that just needed a freshen up on a quick wash, hung them on the line and put them over the airer to finish off.
Used up some leftovers lurking in the fridge to save them getting thrown out.
Not put the heating on, the dog is trying to get under my blanket so it must be cold!
I am now going to make a meal plan and write a list to take to Li*l tomorrow so I dont pick up things I dont need.0 -
Hi Wednesday people,
A few frugal bits from me today:
*Denied energy company a tiny bit more of our cash by switching off the iron to do the final garment & still not having any downstairs heating on........tho' my feet now say the fire is going on as soon as I've typed this.
*Used a bucket of windfall apples to start another batch of apple, cider & chilli jelly. Our own apples, most other ingredients from stores, only had to buy cider which was cheapo Aldi. Dripping through jellybag for jammin' action tomorrow.
*Made enough WW cheesy pasta bake to do tomorrow's dinner too.
*Sorted out birthday cards for the next 12 months.
*Arranged photos in album for elderly relative. Will caption them all tomorrow. Re-gifted album, 36 prints = £9, so a nice inexpensive gift, I think.
*Finished knitting my socks.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Did a few surveys & claimed another £10 John Lewis voucher from Ipsos.
*Paid my pathetic 2p of roadkill into our big money jar. That's my only finds for the last month. Very poor! I reckon Bobarella is sneaking up here in the dead of night on the East Coast Mainline & finding it all!!
Tomorrow, I really do need a day at my desk so am aiming for an early caffeine-fuelled start.
