Landlady Defaults twice on her morgage. Advice needed.

    Had a virtually identical situation with a family member - in this case the landlord knew all about the repossession before renting it out and wanted to grab some extra cash to line his greedy pockets. After living there for two days my relative found out about the repossession too and told him to stuff his rent, saved it and got rehoused by the council when the unchecked and faulty boiler/ water tank came through the kitchen ceiling, meaning there could be no gas, electric or water used.
    I would start saving the rent up and saving boxes myself.

    I would make myself known to the bank now and the court if it has reached that stage again. Set them right on your status that you are a tenant and no you are not related.

    I would then start looking for a new place now.

    You didn't say how much the deposit was compared to your rent. If it is a month I would withhold your last months rent. This isn't legal but if the Landlady tries to sue you for the rent you can counter sue for non-protection of the deposit.

    As she has no money by the looks of it I wouldn't bother suing her now for non-protection of the deposit as it will only cost you money and would in all likelihood result in her evicting you.
