Laptop Advice Required Please! Any techies in? :)

Hi all,

I want to upgrade from my Asus X501u laptop which I can't say I'm a fan of.

I have a basic understanding of pc tech and what to look for and basically my laptop requirements / wish list are:

* Daily internet browsing - playing movies, youtube vids, having multiple tabs running (I use Chrome mostly)
* Running MS Office applications, saving docs etc
* Storing and saving photos and videos, uploaded from my phone & camera etc
* Storing music files, running itunes etc
* USB and HDMI ports
* 15"+ screen as that's what I'm used to and am comfy with
* Quick startup and decent laptop battery life
* Basically something powerful and fast that can deal comfortable with opening applications and doing a few things simultaneously.
* 500GB storage at least

I have my eye on a few Lenovos as they've been recommended to me.

I know that as regards processors, the Intel i3 upwards is the way to go.

So here are the 2 choices within my budget of around £300 (which isn't a lot I know!) but these seem to fit my criteria:

1. http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Lenovo_B590_HM77_Intel_Core_i3-3110M_Processor_4T-2C_2.4GHz__3MB_L3__1600MH_MBX3QUK/version.asp

2. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-G510-15-6-inch-Notebook-Black/dp/B00O8SDRJ6/ref=sr_1_1s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1415670581&sr=1-1

I can't seem to spot many differences between these, can someone more tech savvy perhaps advise which would be best and why or if you have other brand / model suggestions it'd be appreciated!

Cheers :beer:

    As far as I can see the G510 doesn't have a built-in optical drive - does that matter to you?

    The G series are the cheapo home laptops; the B series doesn't seem to feature any more on the Lenovo website, but were the 'business' series.

    Either should do what you want.

    [rant] For all laptops, all battery lives are rubbish - both how long before the battery runs down when in use, and the time (years) before the battery dies completely. [/rant]

    Lenovo G510 with 4th gen i3, it will faster than the one from laptopdirect.
    Also, the one from laptopdirect is based on cashback deal.
