  • I hope that reading this may help someone else if they are placed in this position in the future.
  • Now we can all get on with our lives! From now on, I will bear this in mind where keeping paperwork and evidence is concerned.

  • Yeah lucky enough I keep all my invoices etc in a folder at home so I told him its no problem showing him the delivery dockets/invoice/card payment receipts etc if needs be.

Seems being a neat freak keeping all sorts of scrap papers does pay off lol

Sounds like HMRC are actively investigating this company - and a full enquiry too. Many years ago, when there were adequate HMRC staff, the calls were much more plentiful - e.g. they were not averse to ringing the homes of the self-employed just to enquire as to their good lady's employment status. If they stated 'housewife' the inclusion of wife's wages in the accounts became a 'free go' for the investigator.

    Sad but true!

If you go on the HMRC website, you will see a notice that says they will never contact you via email, ever.

    That's not true.
I get regular emails informing me that there are messages waiting on my on-line PAYE account.
I never click on the link in case they are a scam, but when I log in independently thay always turn out to be genuine.

If you do it takes you to the login page but I suppose this could be a scam to get your login details.
The only thing that is constant is change.
  • Yes, I too have signed up for the new email notification service. I think that what the person meant was that HMRC do not send equivalents to letters via email.

  • So the supplier whom I had purchased heating oil from on occasions been selling Diesel via Cash Payments and raising the Invoices in my name using my own address and using other phantom addresses. I have had to send proof of payments for the invoices which I did order and they are asking now if I would provide a Statement to say which Invoices are and are not mine. Does this mean it would go to court etc or what are the implications for me?

I would call directly to the suppliers shop and tell him what I think of him but I do not want to risk the HMRC Investigation.
  • I don't remember any other posters being involved in an HMRC investigation as a witness or source or background information, so don't know what the procedures are. I doubt whether a court appearance will be necessary. I wonder whether the guilty person will admit everything and co-operate with HMRC as they may get fined less if they do.

  • Not sure, the guy just had emailed a list of transactions to me and asked me to let him know which were definitely mine and which were not. After I gave that information he then asked if I would be happy to provide a witness statement stating which were mine and which were not. Again maybe it is just to strengthen their case to claim back taxes for the fuel laundering? Needless to say I will not be ordering oil from them again lol
