HMRC calling card criminal investigation

I just feel that if it was something important they would write out officially, should the letter go astray etc then surely they would write again recorded/signed for letter before they would just land unannounced and leave a card with a neighbour.
It definitely just feels suspect, I may try and ring HMRC in Belfast tomorrow morning first thing and get it checked out.0 -

Anyone know what this page is for?
This is the number on the card under Williamson Charleen?

It looks like random numbers for scammers to use:

This is all very strange, why oh why don't HMRC have a 24hr helpline to solve this tonight so I can find out if it's real or not arghhhh.
I rang that number from my mobile earlier, oh no.0 -
PHEW!
Got speaking to the guy whose name was on the card, seems he was in the area yesterday as part of an investigation and decided to call with me on the way home on the off chance I would be there.
It seems that a business I buy my heating oil from is being investigated and they are in the process of confirming that the customers named on invoices actually purchased the fuel.
Thank goodness that is all that this was about, I was really really worried last night and was almost sick worrying as I knew I had done nothing wrong.
Thanks to everyone who replied and tried to help me out. I really really appreciate it0 -
Many people never come back and let us know what the outcome or solution was, so it is really good to know this. I have never heard of anything quite like this before, so this thread might save someone's sanity in the future.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Generating false invoices was on the list of possible crimes, so that makes sense.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Murphy - I'm REALLY glad it wasn't anything awful on your account. I'd have been wetting myself too if this had happened to me!
Keep smiling! x0 -
Really pleased it is sorted.
No one wants to fall foul of HMRC so chuffed its all sorted. I get so many emails about refunds under payments etc I always just delete them ( spam ) but can not imagine how scary to have a knock at the door.
Also good to see that they are investigating possible tax evaders.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
Oh my goodness I never put in a night like it last night, was fit for nothing honestly.
The guy was really nice about the whole thing and apologised for making me worry so much. What happened was that I had been having my oil stolen from the tank so had been ordering in small amounts of 100 litres at a time to keep an eye on it and he thought the company were setting up fake invoices. He said that possibly in the course of the investigation he may need to call with the invoices so that I can verify they were mine but he seemed happy enough when I explained.
So so relieved, I will be ready for an early night tonight to make up for last night lolx
