just rang canon and the guy said it might be a CCD fault which they know about but even so i have to pay postage to send it TO them.if they find the fault is something different then they charge £56 plus there's the postage X2 and they give a 6 month warranty.not at all happy cos it was bought in Dec 040

I can understand them charging you to send the camera to them, since you bought it a while ago. Was it an expensive camera when new? you could try to argue that it should last longer than the 1 year guarantee as an expensive item should last a good few years the repair should be done free of charge (at least for the labour). Other than that, maybe put the £56 you would otherwise pay towards a new camera?

it cost me £170 and yes one would expect it to last longer without a problem ( known or not) but not sure if canon would do owt with them being such a big company.regarding your last comment i was thinking the same thing actually.the thing is i shouldnt have to be paying owt out for a new camera and i certainly wouldnt buy another canon0

If you try phoning them back and asking to speak to a supervisor - there are lots of threads on here about the consumer law involved and if you come across polite and knowledgeable you often get what you want. Also if you end up needing to buy a new camera steer clear of Samsung. Although at least they are practically guaranteed TO break in the first year when you're definitely covered, lol.

i did actually ring a different number yesterday courtsey of saynoto but all i got out of the woman was a complaints co-ordinator name and it has to go to the same addy as the camera goes to ( elstree).she also said that any electrical items can go wrong blah blah blah.there dont appear to be any supervisors/people in charge anywhere ( i rang 3 diff numbers).what IS annoying is that it'll cost me abt £6 to send the camera to them to be looked at as there are no service centres nearby and only 3/4 in the country).they tell me they're doing me a favor by fixing it 'free' of charge if the problem is what they think.but what i'm saying is that there shouldn't be a problem in the first place.totally cheesed off i am cos i had to replace my 4 yr old fridge freezer a few wks ago.
