Lots of these posts, all involving ( justified) frustration, anger or similar at shamefully irresponsible neighbours. I thought I'd add mine.

Today I apologised to my neighbour for our terrier getting through to their farm yard, again, and mentioned that I'm planning a serious chicken wire session when every thing has died back.

'Don't you dare!' She said

'I was actually going to suggest we cut a bit out in the hedge or fence so he could get through better , and cleaner, and was never tempted to opt for the road.

No, no, please don't stop him. He loves the rats, doesn't he.'

I knew they were pretty laid back about it ...other wise it would never have happened a second time, even if it had happened a regretful first. we have birds going each way some times too but I did want them to know I was taking the issue seriously because it is a problem IMO.

To be told they wanted to make his route in made me roar with laughter though.

I am still going to do the fencing repairs, of course, but they can have him when ever they want.

In true MSE style, you could earn some extra income by hiring out your dog's rat catching skills :D

Well, its just nice that in contrast to many people's experience these things don't end up in falling out, especially as I am fully and totally at fault here. I think my neighbours deserve freebies really!

How is he with mice, and can I borrow him?

My neighbours still reminisce (in a less appreciative way) about the week I moved in and mutt bit her way through the fence to say hello. They were petrified of her - then again she wasn't doing anything as useful as rat catching.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

He calls mice rats. He just thinks they are little ones. They move quite quickly though, he's often not fast enough. You can borrow the cats though elsien. ( he and the cats make quite a good team.....we have a duct that comes in from the utility room, where until recently there was no back door. The cats and he quite often used to sit in a little circle around the exit point. :o
