in Credit cards
Evening All
i am currently buying a house and i am looking to get a Cashback credit card (direct debt to repay in full).
i am about to move in soon and i am going to be spending lots on a complete overall of the house and want to reap some rewards - i am also planning to do most of my spending year round on it.
looking into it i wanted to get an AMEX platinum or platinum everyday but when i fill out the online eligibility checker it says i am not eligible?
my personal income is £22,000 and about to rise to £24,000 in the new year - and my household income is £45,000.
i have no children and as far as i am aware a good credit rating (i have just been given a mortgage and that was all fine) i do curently have a credit card but have always paid back in full and never gone overdrawn or incurred fee's etc.
any ideas as to why it says i am not eligible?
is it worth applying anyway to see if it goes through?
if it does not go through would this damage my credit rating?
and is AMEX really the best option? i know some places dont accept but i would be willing to work around that for better % cashback.

This eligibility checker gave me a 0% chance of getting an Amex card but I got instantly approved for the Amex Everyday Cashback Credit card with a reasonable limit.
So I wouldn't pay attention to the online checker and just apply. After your house purchase has completed that is.0 -
The Amex on-line eligibility checker said I only had a 20% chance of being accepted, but I got instantly accepted, the card will be with me in 10 days time.
OP, I would make that application.0 -
DO NOT APPLY FOR ANYTHING!
You're in the middle of a house purchase, if you apply for any new credit, your mortgage provider can turn you down. They will keep checking your report up until it's finalised.
Once you've got the house, then you can try and get it. Don't be surprised if you're turned down though, as you won't show up on the electoral roll at your new address.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

No. I suggest you get copies of your credit files
is it worth applying anyway to see if it goes through?
Depends. Do above first.
if it does not go through would this damage my credit rating?
Most credit searches leave a 'footprint' on your credit file, and this could adversely affect your chance of getting credit elsewhere in the short term, especially if there are lots of these 'footprints'
(A request to see your own credit files does not cause such adverse affect)
and is AMEX really the best option? i know some places dont accept but i would be willing to work around that for better % cashback
As you admit, Amex is not as widely accepted (in this country) as Mastercard or Visa. You won't get any cashback if you are unable to use it.
You suggest working around that? There's no point paying say 10% more for something to a retailer that will accept Amex just to earn say 1% cashback.0 -

This is why applications ask for previous addresses0 -
