Does anyone know if JW Player is safe?

Hello, I'm trying to listen to an audio file but it doesn't seem to use Flash Player. When I right-click on it it says JW Player. I've done some research about it and many sources classify it as malware. Kaspersky qualifies it as a safe web resource page.
So - now I'm confused. Does anyone have any experience on this, please?
Any help appreciated....
Thank you

I've seen JW Player on loads of sites too, and haven't had any problems with it.
Some "dodgy" sites can place either visible or invisible layers over the video, so, while you think you're clicking on the play button, you're either clicking a fake play button on top of the real one (which can open pop-ups or attempt to install malware) or some kind of invisible "object".
If you use Firefox, you could try using the NoScript add-on. It can be (easily) set to block scripts on webpages by domain, so you can enable scripts only from the domain serving the video. It also protects you from cross-site-scripting (XSS) hijacking attempts.

I set NoScript to disable scripts on all sites until I manually whitelist them. Whilst that's great for security, some people find it too much hassle. If that's the case, you could set it to allow scripts globally and toggle the full-protection on sites you have problems with.
Hope this helps...0 -

No worries.
Not sure if it's of interest, but the Video DownloadHelper add-on might come in handy if you want an easy way to download audio or video files from You-Tube-like-websites.

That's interesting. I'll have a look0
