Double oven or 2 single ovens/combi microwave?

#firstworldproblems i know but we're having a new fitted kitchen and are struggling to decide whether to get an integrated double electric oven, 2 single electric ovens or another option is a single oven and combi microwave.

I'm going backwards and forwards in my mind so wanted to see if you guys had any thoughts..

We are a family of 5 and i enjoy cooking/cake making etc so need a good solid option.

Neff combi and a single oven fit nicely into a 'cooker' tall unit.

    Deep pockets needed mind!!

  • The double oven we were looking at is around £700, so anything around that price total will work! Single ovens were about £350 i think.
We're using the which reviews to help us decide too

  • It's completely personal preference - think about what you actually use your oven for. We have a single oven and large built in combi microwave. They look stunning and do everything we need but we neither bake or cook roasts.

Neff is indeed the range for cooks. We got our from John Lewis and they're German made and were good value.
  • I've had a double oven with a separate microwave then we moved and the kitchen was smaller so we had an oven and combination oven/microwave. We are now moving again and I will have a double oven and separate microwave again. For the following reasons:
The smaller oven in a double oven is fine for 2 people to cook one thing. Uses less electric. It also means the grill is in the larger oven and can be used separately to the small oven.
I found the combination microwave hard to clean when I used it as an oven, but I find just a microwave easier to clean. Also the combination was so complicated it did my head in! Hope this helps.
My secret fantasy is having 2 men....
    1 cooking and 1 cleaning.
  • For the last 26 years we have had a single oven with grill (Miele) plus a freestanding combi microwave (Siemens) with grill and regular oven features. It could have been built in, but we didn't have the housing space, so it is in a (otherwise unused) corner of the worktop.

If money and space were no object, I would have a double oven AND a built in Combi, which would require 2 housing units.

Being small, a Combi above a single oven is not suitable.

DD got a new house a couple of years back, the standard kit was a microwave above a single oven. She is tall, but even so she felt the microwave was too high up to be sensible. She opted for a double oven, then bought a simple microwave to sit in the (otherwise unused) corner of her worktop.
  • I do like the idea of 2 single ovens - would make cooking for family occasions a lot easier! Depends if you have the space for it.

I have two single ovens and as a pretty keen cook, I love it. They're not expensive ovens at all but they make my life easy. They aren't both in use all the time, but we'll regularly have nine for sunday lunch and it' easy to manage with two proper ovens and they're both at eye level.

I do have a microwave that I suspect does other stuff but I've never read the manual.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • Have 2 Samsung single ovens that you can divide up if required
So have option of 4 spaces to cook at different temps. We tend to leave one oven large and divide other oven. Very economical as only need to use half oven if not cooking much but also great to have space for larger meals at different temps and somewhere to keep plates warm. Also provides a lot more space than some tiny ovens you seem to get on range cookers.

yeah Neff is our preferred option and boots appliances have them cheapest so far i've found.

i do like the sound of ovens you can split up, never heard of that!
