How much an hour to run a 42" plasma TV?

Plasma TV vary according to what is being watched and manufacturer/model of course.
However they are more 'power hungry' than LCD/CRT.
For a 42" I would think 400W would be about the right figure - say 3p-4p an hour.0 -
Thanks. Do they use much in stand-by mode? Ours only switches right off when unplugged. Otherwise is in standby all time.0

Normally all TV's use very little power on standby.
The latest large Plasma TVs consume typically 1W to 2W so if left on 24/7 will cost £1 to £2 a year. In real terms a couple of pence a week.
This is normally the cue to get lectures on:
1. Any saving is worth having.
2. You are personally responsible for global climate change - if you leave your TV on standby.
3. Appliances left on Standby are a huge fire risk. - After all we all see our TVs catching fire all the time.0 -
Thanks. I do unplug it in the night, but tend to forget if its in standby during the day. Also I`m one of those who like to have the tv on in the background. Will make sure its not left in standby anymore, and definately going to cut down on wasted hours when I`m not really watching it.
Thanks again x:T0 -

Not always the case Cardew. We all waste massive amounts of power by leaving appliances on standby. The best thing for the pocket and the environment is to switch off at the wall. The BBC website had an article on this last year http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4620350.stm and there are undoubtedly many more to be found by Googling.Normally all TV's use very little power on standby.0
