Once charged fully, a lead acid battery should be left no longer than 6 months.

Really? So how come the new battery I put on my Pug a month ago has a manufacturer's "recharge by" date of Feb 2016 marked on it?

I suspect that Exide are far more qualified than you to make that call, and they seem to think it'll be fine for at least 16 months if it was brand new fresh from production when I bought it (which it won't have been).

Then again, maybe you know something about battery chemistry that they don't? That seems unlikely seeing as you felt the need to convert the facts that I gave in my last post into "blah blah blah" rather than actually addressing them ;)

You know, that sulphation talk is very, very similar to the, "chat" that an old RAC patrol I used to see a lot, used to parley in support of selling new batteries (on commission) to members with flat batteries. Was it a sales script?

Your argument was so flawed that I didn't feel like spending my entire day responding to it.... ;)

Not entirely, because modern cars have enough parasitic drains on them to flatten batteries in fairly short order. There's a vast difference between a battery connected to a car and one sitting unused, especially with today's vehicles.

Care to explain where and how? Or would you rather that I just repeat the whole thing with references to back up the bits your old wives tales don't agree with? If you want to show something's wrong, just saying "that's wrong la-la-la-got-my-fingers-in-my-ears" only works up to primary school level ;)
