How long till defaults are removed?

Long storey short... defaults are on FIL CRA file - they are not his, they are his sons with the same name.

He has disputed this with Capquest so put the defults in there. They have asked for confirmation/proof to be sent over them to show that he lived in his current address in 2011 when the defaults were put on there. (son with same name took out credit in his name at his own address with FIL date of birth)

So he has sent this over to them and they said they would write a letter to him to confirm the debt has been removed.

Does anyone know how long it takes these companies to remove something from your credit file?

It can take quite a while in cases of alleged fraud. It may well be hard to get them to accept that these are not FIL's debts, even with proof of a different address they may still take some convincing that FIL didn't take out the accounts just at a different address.

A crime number from the police in relation to the fraud can sometimes help.

Has son since repaid the debts? are the defaults now showing as satisfied?

He may also want to consider disputing the entries directly with any of the 3 credit reference agencies that the entries appear on.

He hasn't paid the debt he's young and silly and obviously doesn't care!

FIL has only just found out because he went to apply for a Mortgage on Friday with his other son (my partner) and was refused because of this debt. (He doesn't use any debt apart from a 5 year mortgage he had 8 years ago)

Problem is I don't think he wants to get the police involved because it's his son (Personally I disagree. You do something wrong, you take the consequences)

FIL has said he would happily pay it for us to get the mortgage processed but I really don't think he should accept liability and doubt Santander will accept it paid or not paid anyway...

Its holding up our Santander Mortgage Application. Fees all paid etc and now waiting for this to be sorted before proceeding! :(

Unfortunately these type of cases often take weeks, or even months to resolve.

He may be lucky and they may agree to remove it quite quickly but i wouldn't count on that happening.

No I doubt they will remove it quickly. We all know these people love to be awkward!
