account closed bank won't provide statements

I switched my smile bank account to M&S and am now unable to login to smile to see my final statements. I've phoned them and they said they notified me that I had to download all statements before the switch went through. Maybe they did, I don't recall. In any case surely my request is a reasonable one - are smile entitled to do this?

I'm not sure if they are entitled to do this or not, but if they still hold records you could request copies of bank statements as part of a data subject access request. There is a £10 fee for this, but most likely there would've been a fee to request copies of statements while the account was open.0

I'm not sure that you would be able to specify that you want your personal data in statement format as part of a SAR, as long as they provide you with the data they'll have fulfilled their side of the deal, but it could be quite hard to read. I'd say this is particularly likely to be the case if they offer a service to reprint statements for a fee.0

Nope they are telling you a pack of lies, they should be able to issue you with the information you require, it may cost you a fee, but don't let them fob you off, they just can't be arsed trying to find out how to do it as it is likely a complicated query.0 -

http://www.smile.co.uk/currentaccounts/faqsYour statements will stay online for 12 months (to a maximum of 50 statements), you can print them off during this time or we can mail you a copy for £2.50 per sheet. After 12 months they'll no longer be available online but we can send you archived copies for £10 per sheet.
This obviously relates to accounts that are still open, but if they can send archived statements to current customers, I can't see why they can't do that for past customers (assuming they still have the data, which they usually keep for at least 6 years)0 -
£10 a sheet. That's a massive hint.0
