Help with Xbox live gold subscription card..... please :)

Hi all, dont know if this the right place to post so please feel free to move.
Asking on behalf of BF so sorry for un-technical language!
Basicallyu he brought a Xbox live gold subscription card off the net, and on the packet it said you got 12months plus 1 month free.
When he entered the code into relevant xbox screen it came up code invalid. We had a look on the xbox website and on the forums someone had had the same problem as us, and it turns out that its only compatabile for amercain consoles, and one of the xbox team offered to give this person an alternative code to replace the one that didnt work.
So BF rang up Xbox and explained and mentioned what they done for someone on their forums, the guy on the phone replied that they couldnt do that (?! even though they had) and he would have to set up a amercain gamer tag, which he doesnt want to do as he cant import all hes achievements or something.
Anyway sorry for waffling, but basically does anyone know a way round using this card or is he stuck with it?
Any ideas be v grateful - cant stand him sulking for another night :rotfl:

Im afraid hes genuinally stuck!

I wouldn't set up an American account - I'm sure I read that they delete these and ban the user as they assume you are trying to cheat the system. Maybe some one that has more knowledge can confirm or deny this but I'd certainly hold off that until you are sure.

Hi I have a US live account, all works fine, apart from I can't download films, comes up with wrong region, I'm not worried about that. I can download & play game demo's fine.0
