Creation - Maximiles credit card and Ladbrokes fees!

Options
Booked 4 tickets for party pack at Monmore Green stadium, which is owned by Ladbrokes. Used our Creation/Maximiles credit card for payment and was charged the correct amount with no extra booking fees. On checking the CC statement noticed a £5 handling fee. Emailed both Ladbrokes and Creation and Ladbrokes confirmed it was not there charge. Creation came back with, because it was charged to Ladbrokes this is taken as gambling so is a cash advance. Emailed Creation back and explained it was for entrance into a party at the stadium, but again they stated it was charged as a cash advance because of the Ladbrokes link. Yes, we fully understand if we had been gambling direct with Ladbrokes we would be charged handling fees, but for purchasing party tickets!

First a warning for Creation CC users, and also anyone else had any similar handling fees by association to a betting company?

Contact Ladbrokes and ask them to clarify what the transaction was classified as.

  • Will try them again and ask the question.

That would only be any good if you asked them before. We know full well how Ladbrokes classified the transaction now - as gambling!

If you call Creation again and emphasise that it was an innocent mistake as you weren't gambling and so it didn't occur to you that there would be a fee because of it, they should agree to waive it as a goodwill gesture.

Though as it's gone through as gambling, you are most likely paying interest on it as if it was a cash advance so I'd pay it off right now if you haven't already.
  • Thanks for advise, we had already contacted Creation and pointed out it was not a direct gambling transaction, and had the same reply back about "as it's Ladbrokes... blah, blah, blah. Will pay off now, and if it was down to me would kick them into touch, but wife likes to collect the point.

It depends why they think it was gambling. If they are just going by the name "Ladbrokes" then your card company are in the wrong and you should keep harassing them.
If Ladbrokes classified the transaction as "cash advance" or similar, then your problem is with Ladbrokes and you should keep complaining to them.
