Hope you are able to get help - Food Banks are a short term help for up to 3 weeks while Social Services sort out your benefits
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

SOCIAL SERVICES DONT SEAL WITH BENEFITS AND VERY OFTEN GIVE MISLEADING OR JUST PLAIN BAD ADVICE!
BENEFITS ARE NOT SOCIAL SERVICES AREA OF EXPERTISE.
THE op IS TALKING ABOUT TAX CREDITS WHICH IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF hmrc.
SOCIAL SERVICES CAN HELP WITH FOOD BANK REFERRELS AND MONEY FOR EMERGENCY GAS/ELECTRIC PAYMENTS

You will be able to get a food bank voucher but as mentioned before, it is only short term help (enough for 3 days).

You need to call tax credits and tell them that the overpayment is causing you a hardship and get them to lower the amount you are repaying. What is the reason for the over payment? Do you owe the overpayment they are claiming or have you appealed it? Aso, are you claiming all other benefits you are entitled too?

  • Oh dear, sorry to hear that. Looks like you might need to forget about showing such an interest in the new 3DS and games that you were discussing in another thread only last week.

Like Edinburgh i've just been reading your past history. If i had to coose between a game costing £145 or food, i'd pick something to eat.
You do see lots of free games on the Internet, could you not go down that road instead of getting free food.

I don't know the op's past posting history, but if what the last two posters have said is true, then it's posters like the op that give genuine claimants a bad name!

Ah I didn't read posting history before offering advise - my bad, if you are choosing games like that over food and taking from a food bank then shame on you x

  • Goodness, I'm really fed up of people who read back on other people's posting histories and then think they know everything about them.

Especially when they fail basic reading comprehension.

Yes, the OP was taking part in a discussion about an expensive game system, but so far as I can see he never expressed an intention to buy one, and certainly didn't say he wanted to buy one instead of eating.

You should never get fed up reading previous posts, they tell you so much about a person.
I'm not going back to read them again but wasn't the Op asking which games he could use on various machines and the best price that others had managed to get them. From memory there wasn't a post saying the Op had actually bought anything, but if they had little money it would have made more sense to ask which shops were selling bargain food.

  • Exactly Sailor Sam. Some posters should try to develop more awareness about how they might be perceived based on previous postings. People can be a bit careless about the online footprints that they leave behind. Maybe some of us have judged the OP wrongly, only the OP knows whether or not they have genuine need, but the conclusions were all too easy to jump to.
