PC infected with Trojan Horse, all help appreciated!

Hi,

whilst downloading something yesterday, my computer has become infected with TROJAN HORSE GENERIC 5.HHH, a .exe file and a couple of .dll files.

I have comodo, avg anti virus and avg anti spyware installed and running. I'm currently running a full system check with AVG - can anyone tell me what I need to do to get rid of this (these) viruses please?!! :o:confused:

Well in general I'd advise going through the malware removal guide sticky, posts 1 to 4.

If AVG detected it as a Trojan, it should be able to delete it when doing a scan (its better in the future to do a scan in SafeMode)... If it doesnt work, delete the trojan files... If you just downloaded it when it got detected, it wouldn't have infected you... (unless its a file other than the one you downloaded).

Post back if AVG removes it or not... (try to scan the file in SafeMode using AVG as well to aid the removal of it)

If you do further scans and it comes up clean then you'll probably be ok. Might be worth using an online scanner as well. Can't remember if it gives a link to some in the malware thread.

dont forget that AVG often flags up perfectly innocent applications as trojans. In fact if AVG told me I had a trojan I would seek a second opinion.

If you're not sure whether a file is clean or not, a good idea is to upload it to http://www.virustotal.com/ and it'll be scanned by lots of different antiviruses... if only AVG says its malicious, it may be a false positive.
Remember, this method is not 100% effective with determining whether a file is malicious or not, but the closest thing I can think of.

Also remember, better to be safe than sorry!.. Just because it *may*be a FP, do you really want to take the risk with running it anyway?... Some people may, some may not... personally, I wouldn't take a risk. I'd send it to my AV's support team (or viruslab) and ask them to confirm whether its malicious or a FP.
(I'm not sure about how the process with identifying possible FPs with AVG works though).
