Hi all, seeking some advice with my lenovo laptop. It is set to automatically download windows updates but for the past few weeks when it tries to do so it downloads the updates ok but then it goes through the process of configurating the updates before a message pops up saying "update configuration failed, reverting to previous settings".
After this I assume it goes back to where it was but then it will say at the bottom of screen "your computer will restart in 2 days to install new updates" which are the ones I think it has not been able to install.
There are now 82 updates waiting to install but until I can sort out why its not configurating them they are going to wait,so can anyone help with any pointers as to the cause and possible fix? as always many thanks for any help..

Either you (or your computer) have turned off a couple of services which are needed to download and install the updates. I'll have a look for the solution. Hopefully it won't take long
Here's a solution. It has to do with some services requiring manual installation and they are set to disabled. Get them running again but as said don't do anything else to the services. See what happens.
Thanks to Jseidal
Well, I did the online chat with MS support. I am impressed with the gentleman I got and he was able to remote in to my PC and successfully install 9 of 13 updates, one at a time. The key was to start 4 Windows services and he left me the procedure in notepad:
The steps would be going to start screen and typing services.msc
Hit enter.
Search for Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
Right click Background Intelligent then click start.
Same goes with Cryptographic Services.
The third service is Windows Modules Installer.
The fourth is Windows Update.
It is important not to touch other services aside from the 4, because there is a possibility that your computer will not boot after restart.0
