in Credit cards
I have a £4000 deposit for a car to be paid in the next month or so and just wondered which of the top 0% purchase cards were likely to have highest limit. Was going to use cash but might as well play the credit game.
I have an Amex cashback card with a £5k limit ,repaid in full every month.
£1000ish 0% apr on sofas
2 bank accounts, no overdraft
Mortgage in wifes name solely
I have a good income so shouldn't have a problem with applying, I just wondered if a particular provider was known for offering higher initial limits. Cheers!

Basic "rule" (not set in stone) is having around 50% of salary as available credit so if you have the 5K limit and no other credit (not sure how the sofa fits into CC calculation) then if you earn more than 18k you should be able to get 4k card - however - cannot guarantee that any would give you.
Best whack the details into the MSE soft checker and see which you have a chance of getting to see if you have any choice or not
Remember also if the seller (assuming dealer) accepts a CC they may give you a higher cost due to processing costsSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Dealer took an initial £500 deposit on amex with no charge so should be ok.
I've done all the soft searches and pass fine, I'd rather have a single 0% card than have to apply for 2 to cover the balance.0 -
Anecdotally MBNA and Barclaycard generally give relatively high limits (high relative to what some other lenders would give in the same circumstances).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

I doubt if the dealer will let you pay £4k without charge on a credit card - if they do you have been done up like a kipper.0

I'll ring them tomorrow - even so I can purchase £4000 worth of 3vcards and then transfer them back to my bank account FOC and just pay by debit card so I'll be sorted either way, one is just more of a faff.
Don't think I've done too badly on price, its for a really popular car with a 12-15 week lead time and the price I've paid is within a few hundred quid of drivethedeal (its actually the same now as their best price has increased plus i got a couple of options free), and from forums no one else seems to have managed anywhere near the same discount (originally I was going to part ex, but they gave a lowish amount and after negotiation gave me more off the price, however the part ex price remained the same. I approached the head salesman a few days later and said i want to pay cash instead and he said that was fine, new contract signed with original discount still)0 -
I don't think it really works to compare circumstances, as we all have too many differences to make it meaningful.
Nevertheless Santander gave me £6800 limit on an 18 month purchase card earlier this year. I had well over my salary in available credit at the time and that didn't seem to have any impact.0
