You're picking up on dead and buried comments from over 2 years ago, best to read the date on posts when an old thread is resurrected [once again, a good argument for closing any thread that hasn't been active for a long time].
Oops. That'll teach me for posting whilst crammed into a train on the way home.0 -
It might be cheaper but you'll need to spend more of your time providing evidence that's acceptable to your solicitor about the source of the funds - that's if they will accept the transfer in the first place.
I also don't understand how going back to the branch four days on the trot or making a transfer from an overseas account is going to be cheaper or more convenient than paying £30 for a CHAPS transfer.
If it was a choice between going to Santander and paying £30 to get it over and done with, trying to cheapskate it by traipsing down to Santander four days on the trot (which frankly is asking for trouble with security checks) and therefore taking four times as long, or making a transfer from overseas which will probably cost the £30 anyway, if not more, and may not even be acceptable, I have no idea why any sane person would choose the former. It's £30 (possibly less) compared to £400,000. That's 0.0075%. If you told me I could pay that much for a transaction or else have to go to a poxy branch four days on the trot I'd bite your hand off.
I will never, ever understand peoples' squeamishness about paying the piddling sum for a CHAPS transfer in conjunction with something as important and complex - and bloody expensive - as a house purchase. It's like buying a sports car and complaining about the cost of the petrol. If there's one thing I wouldn't cheapskate, it's something where guaranteed movement of money is paramount.urs sinserly,

Its the number of posts, not the length of forum membership, which determines when a user can post links:cool:0 -

Theoretically you can hack a bluetooth or wireless keyboard, but yeah, that'd be a lot of effort to go to just to screw up an MSE forum post.
And yes, 12 years but only 9 posts so I couldn't include a link. Fortunately as that was my 10th post I could then edit it to add the link in. :-)0
