Post Office Homephone won't disconnect service

Options
We're moving house on Friday and just phoned the Post Office to change our telephone service to our new address. Admittedly, we left it a bit late and they are saying under their T&C this transfer can't take place for 14 working days so the phone service will be transferred on the 25th. We should have phoned them earlier so that's fair enough.

But they are also refusing to disconnect service at our previous address after we move out, which means if new tenants move in before the 25th they can make phone calls on our line.

Is there anything we can do to prevent this?

Ridiculously so, did you really think you could terminate services in just four days?

Ask any new tenants not to?

They will be refusing to disconnect it at the previous address as it takes an engineer to go into the telephone exchange to do this.
If no engineers are available for a few days due to being booked for other jobs this is likely why they can't do it straight away.

Thanks, that makes sense. I don't think the landlords have found new tenants so hopefully we're going to be OK.

    A lesson learned ....
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • They should be able to put outbound call barring on the line if they choose the debt-management flavour of this feature.
