15 years ago there were restrictions due to licencing laws. It never stopped me getting a beer in any restaurant or cafe I went in. You get used to it being served in a tea pot.

It will be interesting to see what happens here. Kerela is my favourite part of India. Fortunately, when I go there it is on business so I stop in 5 star hotels.

You'll be lucky! Hardly worth the risk, especially for whoever was providing it.

I had lager served from a teapot into a cup and saucer in Bahrain a few years ago. The Bahraini government was having a bit of a crackdown at the time, and it was really weird to be sat in a room full of blokes wearing their thobe and ghutra doing the same thing. It's not as if it wasn't obvious.

Used to drive from Saudi (Riyadh) to Bahrain every few weeks to stock up on pork bacon and sausages. Only one place (Spillies) in Bahrain sold pork. When we bought it we told the bloke behind the counter that we were taking it back to Saudi, and he wrapped the bacon and sausages labelling it as veal or lamb. You still ran the risk of the Saudi border police searching your car, and spoiling the party.

I remember asking a Saudi friend of mine if he'd ever eaten pork. He replied "Peter my friend, I have never knowingly eaten port, but it was very nice!"

    Happy days!

  • When we were in Kovalam 4 years ago, outwith the hotel, we regularly had to drink beer and wine out of teapot and teacups and/or hide it under the table. No place would pay the licence fee so it was always a nod and wink to get a drink.

    I dont see much changing
