Cancelled BA flight

Hi,

I went to Florida in May 2010, returning in June. At the time British Airways staff were undergoing major strikes. When we were in Florida we were unsure as to whether our return flights scheduled for 6th June from Heathrow to Newcastle would be going ahead. THe only info we had was that most of the short haul flights would be cancelled, to leave the staff that werent striking free for the long haul ones.

When we arrived at Heathrow, tired from an overnight flight from New York, we still didn't know if the flight was going ahead. We went to the BA desk to be told it was cancelled, no info as to how we get home, or if we could even claim for this leg of our flight. We were told to get a train or hire a car! We hired a car, costing us a small fortune as we only wanted it one way! We got £15 re-imbursed for that leg of the flight package, (you try getting from Newcastle to Heathrow and back for £15 - its impossible). Anyway, not sure as to whether you think this will entitle me to compensation at all?

Thanks

if you need to post further there is a specific thread for BA delays and cancellations on the Flight Delay Compensation board
  • What happens in it was BMI baby as they are no longer in operation? We were delayed nearly 23 hours, stuck in the airport the whole time! Apparently the original problem was a cracked window screen then it was too late for the crew to fly as they didn't have a adequate rest period therefore the flight was cancelled. We were at Malaga airport! Awful experience with 3 children! I originally tried to claim compensation from the airline but they said it wasn't their responsibility to pay compensation and we should go to our insurance company!

That's more than 4 years ago, why didn't you do something about it a bit closer to the date of the issue?

If you want responses you should really start your own thread. But just to ask: what did your insurance company say when you tried to claim?

Did you send BA receipts for the car-hire and ask to be reimbursed after the fact? If not, you could try doing this now.
