repayment of student grant

my daughter recently quit uni after a couple of weeks
we managed to stop her tuition fees being paid but her 1st payment of her student loan approx £1300 and maintenance grant approx £1100 as been paid to her. future payments have been blocked/cancelled with student loans england

I understand that she will have to pay back the loan part when she starts earning over the £21,000 but what happens to the grant money she has had. surely because she has left uni and not used the grant to pay for her living expenses we should pay that back straight away? student loans england were not helpful as they said just repay the loan on their website repayment page no mention of the grant

just wondering if anybody had any pointers/advice

I would have thought that as she hasn't needed to use either the loan or the grant that they should both be repaid in full now. However, I've no idea what, if any, mechanism there is for doing that. I can't see any moral case for keeping the loan and repaying it through the tax system when she has never been a student - that money (and the grant) should go to a genuine student.

The loan will be paid back by the usual method yes, they will demand repayment of the grant at some point. Grants are repayable on demand should a student leave before the end of the uni year.

Just keep it in a savings account or something until they ask for it back.
  • her student accommodation which is privately run not be the uni are saying she is liable for the remainder of her contract...£105 pw for 42 weeks unless she can find a replacement student to take over the room...we have been trying for a month with no joy...

could we use the student loan/grant money to pay this as a stop gap ??
