Car written off undervalued offer advice please

From the description of the existing damage that alone sounds like at least £500 worth of damage.
I think they are being quite generous in the circumstances. If you don't then buy the salvage back and have it repaired.0 -
Try reading the thread. Ironically, 'going through it all' will provide the wisdom you seek.
society's child was spot on though. The key word you were looking for in their response was existingInsideInsurance wrote: »You appear to be mixing up the pre-existing damage and the accident they are now claiming for. Front bumper, grill, latch is the pre-existing - though not sure just how high a kerb has to be to damage the bonnet latch!!. The suspension, rear bumper etc is the AD damage the OP is now claiming for.
Nowhere as far as I have seen has the OP stated that the bumper they caught on the kerb was the front, or that the damage they are referring to at the front was the existing damage.
Please do feel free to point out where the OP states that the pre-existing damage is the damage they were referring to when they explained what the car needed to fix it.
I am happy to be corrected, but my interpretation of the posts from the OP clearly differs from yours.0 -

Opening post the OP says:
"Anyway I caught the bumper on a curb in a carpark (stupidly high curb) the week before I was hit "
The OP has already said they were smacked up the back. Tell me, if the rear bumper was the one already damaged, how would anyone know after another vehicle had hit it?
Logically it can only be the front! Please do feel free to point out where the OP states that the pre-existing damage is the damage they were referring to when they explained what the car needed to fix it.I am happy to be corrected, but my interpretation of the posts from the OP clearly differs from yours.
I am not going to argue with you. You asked, several people have informed you and you are in danger of derailing the OP's thread. Please do let them get on with it.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

It is rather obvious from the logical progression of the posts. The OP mentions pre-existing damage (which seems a lot) and discusses the bits needed. It is spread over a few posts but it is there.
Your interpretation differs from everyone else. No offence but since the OP is getting help and nobody has the issue but you then these queries don't add anything to the thread.

If you say so.
I do not operate on an interpretative basis, I read what's presented, and then respond. Sorry if you don't like the fact I haven't responded in the way you like. We are all entitled to our opinion, and I simply presented mine as it had formed.
My car has a ding on the rear bumper. I know that, I caught it on a post. I was stupid.
But...
I'd know damn well if it was subsequently hit by another car though, and I'm not an insurance assessor. I've worked in insurance, and assessors are very much capable of determining the difference between damage sustained by collision with another vehicle, and that sustained by damage on a kerb/wall etc.
Until the OP comes back to confirm the situation, I am happy to let you have the high ground, and I have no intention of arguing with you, I just happen to have a different view of things based on the explicit lack of information rather than its explicit inclusion.
I hope when they do, they will explain, just for the sake of my own curiosity, exactly what sort of kerb you can hit in a Multipla which will take out the front bumper, grille and bonnet catch, as I can't for the life of me work out how that amount of pre-existing damage could have been sustained as a result of a car park incident.0 -
The bonnet catch and bumper damage could be separate problems and unrelated. Its a Fiat Multipla 1.6 Eleganza 54 plate (facelift) with twin sunroof/alloys/full electrics just turned 80k it need a new front bumper as its split underneath and grill (the bonnet latch got stuck so we have to pull it off) Ive had a gearbox, clutch, exhaust, 4 new tyres since ive had it, I know this doesn't count but it was meant to be a keeper
The catch is located in/near the grill, so a sticky catch possibly would need the grill removing to gain access.
The bumpers on Multiplas are quite low so a high kerb could crack it.
Either way if a body shop were repairing it expect at least a few hundred. Bearing that in mind the £1500 doesn't sound too bad. Shame it can't be bumped up to help towards the recent repairs on the car, as I've heard of people getting extra for recent belt changes or new tyres.0 -
