Kindle E-Reader wi-fi password hacking

Recently de-registered my old kindle e-reader with view to selling.

Is it possible a buyer could find out my wi-fi password (should they be so inclined!) ?

I ask because I've recently read about people wi-fi hacking when within range but wondered if it only refers to hacking into someone's system or, if they bought my kindle, could they find out what password I had actually input into it?

Can it log in to your WiFi still? If so it has the password in it and there is probably a way to view it although why anybody would want to is beyond me as they could only connect to it if close enough.

http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-a-Kindle gives instructions on wiping it. If they don't work for your model then google is your friend

    Hi Mo,

If you use the "restore to factory settings" option within the device itself, that removes all personal data from the Kindle, including the WiFi password.

When the device is re-registered, you have to enter new WiFi information -- it won't remember it from the last time.

    Hope that helps.

Unless you plan on selling it to one of your neighbour's. Then chances of someone travelling to your home to use wifi is extremely remote

  • Thanks for your replies.

Having sent said item already I was unable to reset nor check if still connected to my wi-fi. so contacted provider who informed there could be a slight chance security might be compromised so
    wi-fi pass now changed.

    Another lesson learned!!

Slight as in person standing outside to use your wifi, otherwise no.
