Talk Talk Connection Fee

Thinking of moving line rental and broadband from BT and Tiscali respectivley. (am aware of all the scare stories, but the emphasis is on saving me money)
Spoke to a TT sales advisor a couple of weeks back who talked me through their various packages and even offered me FREE connection (as opposed to £29.99 as stated on their site).
Went away to think about it, phoned them up again today and they insist on £29.99 as a connection fee. Am aware that I can't rely on the original offer (and sadly don't have the name of the advisor who offered it me) but was just wondering if anyone has had any simlilar offers or managed to get it waived once you've dug your heels in.
I've rang them back 5 times today in the hope of striking lucky with a accomodating sales rep, each time dangling the threat of going with someone else instead, but to no avail so far. Excuses range from "you shouldn't have been offered it in the 1st place" to "we've never offered that" to "that offer ran out on 1st July" etc.
Any success stories out there?

If you really want to join TalkTalk - despite all the disadvantages - you could join via Quidco - the cash back would cover the installation fee.

What are the disadvantages of joining Talk Talk as we've just transferred our selves from BT to them?"It is always the best policy to speak the truth-unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar." - Jerome K Jerome0 -

If you want quality, you pay accordingly (as my wife keeps telling me when she hands me credit card receipts).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
thanks for the heads up
I've just been into Carphone Warehouse and been told it IS possible to get the fee waived by means of a cashback on a subsequent bill.
Seems persistance is the key.0 -
Don't touch Talk Talk. Theyr'e real scam merchants. I signed up with them in 2005 offering 6 months free line rental and reduce my call charges by 50%. The first bill went up by nearly 100%, fortunately I kept all my previous bills and could prove that they were charging me nearly 100% more. Had to fight real hard to get some of my money back, threatened to take them to court.0

Never a wise move to move line rental away from BT. Only BT (+ Kingston) are forced to allow you cheap call access.
With BT you get free caller display, this is chargeable with TalkTalk.
TalkTalk can and do block you from using cheap calls access, so you end up paying more as you can't route calls away from them.
Broadband is dreadful, poor speeds, constant disconnections, service falling over.
TalkTalk kept trying to bill me for around 4 months after I'd left them. With threatening letters for debt collecting agencies, and putting markers on my credit file stating I'd missed payments (though managed to get them cleared off). It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Parents are with Talk Talk. No problems what so ever, Broadband has good speeds. I also called Talk Talk Customer Services and told them that when we were with BT we could get Free Caller Display, The advisor said no problem you can have it Free with TalkTalk.0

Pleased to hear that Kevin. As problems mainly appear to occur when Talk Talk LLU the exchange, do you now whether that's happened yet with the exchange your parents are on?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Yes, The exchange has been LLU since April.
Parents received a letter stating that there may be a few hours of disruption due to the works taking place but to be honest they never had any disruption.
I was using my brothers laptop this afternoon at my parents house and have found the broadband speed to be very good.
We phoned TalkTalk re the Free Caller dispaly that BT offered and they have applied it to my parents account Free of Charge along with the Free Voicemail. They also give my parents a £5 loyalty credit as when they joined we were thinking of cancelling the service and going to Tiscali for the Line Rental and Broadband.
So, now my parents pay:
£10.50 Line Rental,
£8.99 Talk 3,
£0.00 Free Broadband,
£0.49 25% Discount on Mobile Calls,
- £5.00 Credit each month
= £14.98 per month0
