Sleeping patterns of a 7-8 yr old.

Can you remember what time yr kids fell asleep at this age?

Did they fall straight away or toss and turn?

Also what time on a average did they wake?

Thanks

    they are all different.

FWIW, my daughter has never been a straight-to-sleep kind of child, even as a baby. At that age, her bedtime was around 8.15pm, she'd normally be asleep within about 30 minutes of that time, and I'd wake her in the morning at around 7.30am.

My niece is the opposite, she goes straight to sleep when she's tired, always has, and she wakes up usually earlier than her parents.
  • My 7 year old mainly falls asleep straight away, however, occasionally we will have a night where he can't drop off (he just lies there bless him until he does)!

He goes to bed 7pm mainly and wakes up 7ish the following morning.

Hope this helps, however, as balletshoes says, I think they are all individual.

He goes before eight usually and normally goes to sleep quickly apart from the odd night. He is also an early riser but normally keeps quiet until everybody else is up.

My son considered sleep an optional extra from being a baby, could never get to sleep. Hated bedtime and would be up fresh as a daisy from around 6am. Frequently wandered into our room in the night, learnt to crawl under the duvet from the bottom in the middle as that way he could lie there undiscovered until morning, he was still doing this around age 9.

The Christmas when he was 8 weeks short of his 12th birthday, he started sleeping later. Now 14 he is still not a fan of bedtime, but no longer wakes us up early or crawls into our bed. However he is a pain to wake for school.
  • my DS is 7 at the moment he goes up about half 6 on a school night has 30 minutes for reading and then lights out i know he is still awake now he just chills out in his bed until he falls asleep

he will be up anytime between 4 and 5 am

even if he goes to bed exhausted at 10pm he wont stay asleep any later than 5 am i think that is just his body clock

whereas i can put DD in bed at 6pm and if i leave her (and get DD to leave her alone) she will sleep past 10 am (she is 5 he is 8 this month)
The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5

When our eldest was three we used to find him in the mornings, wrapped in his duvet, asleep on our bedroom floor.

My ds 7 gets put to bed about 9 (this used to be 8 but didn't make any difference ) he does not sleep until gone 11 it can be past 12 some nights. He has never slept he does not seem to be able to turn off even with the lights out and when he is lying in bed with nothing to do he will make up stories to himself and do the actions with his arms. I have to wake him at 7 and he is always tired and grumpy he is often tired but it doesn't help he just won't sleep grrr

It just goes to show that all kids are different, if anyone has any answers please share I have tried most things over the years but nothing seems to work he must just be a child that doesn't need sleep, he cetainly doesn't get that from me.

At that age I just said night night, closed the door and let him get on with it. No idea exactly how long it took him to get to sleep - and any attempts to get out of bed would be met with a stern ticking off unless there was a very good reason.

The only thing I found I had a little bit of success with, was playing classical music to ds. That would nod him off - sometimes! Give it a go, if it's something you've not yet tried.

Depends on what is going on in their minds at the time. If mine have a test the next day at school (last week every day!) or have something exciting or worrying the next day then they don't settle until around 10pm then have to be woken by 7:30am to get ready for school.

Normally though if they have had sufficient active stimulation during the day it will be between 8pm - 9pm that they fall asleep, but I make sure they are in bed by 8pm.

They will then wake naturally between 7am and 7:30am.

It really does depend though if they are buzzing from an activity just been or coming up!

If not asleep by about 9:30/10pm I will go up and sit on the bed and stroke their hair then sit still and breathe deeply until they are asleep
