It's worth trying a range of other sizes and brands, ask around your friends and do a nappy swap between you, or if you don't want to be seen as trying to get free nappies then offer to pay the cost of a single nappy. Alternately email the nappy companies and ask for a sample of what you want, they're always keen to make and keep customers.

When my son was little you used to be able to get what were called nappy boosters, basically an extra pad to tuck in place where needed. I like the sanitary towel idea though! Also as has been said, make sure his penis isn't pointing upwards, baby boys can be deadly with leaks if pointing in the wrong direction!

  • When my LO was about that age, we had this problem, so I used to change her when we went to bed. I could pick her out of the cot, change the nappy and get her back down without her waking up!

  • My son is 2, and a nightmare for this. We eventually realised, after trying pretty much everything suggested above, that it was the child rather than the nappy - he is a monster for putting his hands in his nappy and fiddling with his bits as he winds down to sleep, so it ends up pointing up so he just sees straight out the top of the nappy.

We also find it happens in the morning with toddler erections (nobody tells you when you have a baby boy that things are pretty functional from the off!) :o

    Hi Mrs Howarth!

In my experience, when lo's nappy leaks it's time to go up a size regardless of the guidelines on the nappy.

Our 18 month old boy was having similar issues. I thought he was sneeking off to the pub ;)

We changed to Pampers Baby Dry for nights, and it is going well. We use easy-ups during the day.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:
  • We found moving up a size sorted this problem out instantly but we have a girl rather than a boy so this may have helped. She spends a lot of the night rolling over and any non rolling time is on tummy so we have wet pj top too
I ignored the guidelines as she was nowhere near the recommended weight for the first size let alone the bigger size!

  • Thank you all for your comments :) I've tried pampers, asda and now aldi, last night I gave him less milk and also changed him when I went up to bed to make sure. I make sure his willy is down so I know that's not the problem, I think it's him wriggling all over the bed, dragging the top down while on his front.

I understand that nappies are a guideline but size 6 say 36 lbs plus, which is a hell of a jump and I imagine would hang considerably low. Making it uncomfortable for his legs and more likely to leak from dangling when full?

Will see how we get on this week on less fluid before bed. Thanks all for your suggestions :)

My nappies (pampers active fit) are a size 4+ and the size guidelines are between 20 and 44ibs. The guideline itself has a huge range of 24ibs between the lightest baby they are 'designed' for and the heaviest baby.

My son is 23ibs but has been in size 4+ since he was 7 months. Although he was a big baby, when we first used them he was under 20ibs. He started to leak a lot around 6 months old and I didn't think it would be the size of nappies as he was already in a bigger size than most of the babies we know. However, changing size stopped the leaking because the nappy went further up his torso (boys always seem to leak up their front even with tail down).

I also looked at the FAQs on the pampers website which tell you the bigger the nappy size the bigger the absorbent layer. Also, with pampers the + means more absorbency if your baby really isn't ready to move up. So if he is a 5 in pampers try a 5+ not a 6 for example. I've only ever used Pampers (bar a couple of own brands when he was young that leaked) so I only have experience of their sizes and the info I have read on the Pampers site. Of course, plenty of people don't like Pampers but the sizing has worked well for us.

We didn't find the nappy too droopy when we moved up as we just pulled it higher up (obviously not under his armpits or anything!)

What is there to lose by trying a bigger size? Chances are you will still use them when he does get bigger and a lot of posters echo the same thing - it's time to go up a size :D

We had the same with our son. We found using pampers baby dry at night & trying to cut down fluids, we said no drinks after 5:30, but he did (& still does drink like a fish).

It is a case of trying different brands, we found boots good too but then they changed them & he started leaking.

Also what about putting them on back to front? We did with daughter as she kept taking nappy off in the night & we had no leask issues.

We had to move up a size into size 6 waaaay below the stated weight levels on them... it was the body length more than anything else that we needed on them and it stopped the leaking issues immediately (we were having the same problem you're talking about with overnight leaks up the front).
