this ap can't run on your pc

I have a piece of software from 1997 which has run OK on every version of Windows until 8 which simply says "this ap can't run on your pc"
Any ideas please?

Try right-clicking on the installer (setup.exe?) and select options to install as Administrator and perhaps also in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3.

No progress - tried all options but no joy - doesn't even start to install.

    16 bit program?

I think win 7 32 bit would run these as would win xp.

I'm sure win 7 64 bit required the special add in only available in win7 pro edition called XP-Mode to run them.

Win 8 will be 64 bit so no chance I'd guess without a VM machine software.

Count yourself lucky and blessed that you have had this much use out of it.

Or buy an old PC/laptop with XP for a few quid just to run this.

    Thanks everyone
I've still got a Win7 netbook which runs it OK - so all is not lost!.

Win 8 has removed the remaining 16bit-ness that was allowing this ancient programme to run.
Loads of DOS games and old Windows ones will be hit by this.
Solution, apart from another machine which you've got, would be to run a virtual machine, and install whatever version of Windows you like. VirtualBox is free.
