Avast asking for money to renew

I installed a free version of Avast on my PC, and I also paid for back up with them for a year. I no longer want the back up as I back it up myself, but I got a message from Avast wanting about £30 to renew my security. Has anyone else had this and do I need to uninstall it, and either get the free version again or another free one? If I have to uninstall it is it difficult to uninstall? Any help in non-techie language would be gratefully received.

A lot of anti-virus companies try to (strongly) persuade you to upgrade when your subscription runs out, but if you read the message carefully (ignore the massive text and graphics and look for some "small print" or a "greyed-out" button somewhere), you should just be able to register for another year's free protection.
Hope you can find the link/button!0 -
No need to uninstall - just choose the free option when you renew it.0

I suspect you originally downloaded the Trial version, not the free one. Stick to the free one......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Avast is becoming a pain/bloated.
I'm finding every time that there's a product update, I have to go through all my custom settings, because something will have been altered back to default.
Now trying Bitdefender free version.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
When Avast updates here all the settings are kept. No problems with any resetting.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

A belated Thankyou for your replies. Nothing worked though, so I actually paid to renew. £45.99 for two years. My avast account then seemed to have updated my renewal date to December 2016. However by 1st December 2014 it was saying I had no licence. I rang avast who said they could find no trace of my payment, though it had been charged to my credit card. The customer care assistant said I would have to complete an online "ticket" to send to their accounts. I did that, and it said I should get a reply within 48 hours. I got no reply so I deleted avast and put Microsoft security on my computer, and contacted my credit card supplier (M&S) to ask them to raise a dispute. I got an e-mail from avast 10 days after my ticket, asking for more information, which I couldn't give them as they hadn't acknowledged my payment. They had taken my money though. M&S have refunded my money to me, subject to avast arguing differently within 60 days.0

i suspect you replied and renewed not to Avast, but a scam email. i nearly feel for that a few years back with Kaspersky near my renewal time0

The payment appeared on my credit card as avast nexway. And the payment was through their site on my computer, not from an e-mail.0

Nexway is in effect a platform to allow purchase for companies that don't want to handle it in house .0

just google avast nexway and you will see complaints going back a few years
